NELFUND Begins Payment of Outstanding Upkeep Allowances to Students

After weeks of uncertainty and complaints from students across the country, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has commenced the payment of outstanding upkeep allowances to eligible beneficiaries.

The development comes as a relief to thousands of students who had been worried over the delay in receiving their monthly upkeep payments. Many had expressed concerns about the impact of the delay on their feeding, transportation, and other day-to-day expenses.

According to updates from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), NELFUND has resumed disbursement after resolving technical issues that affected its payment system. The association assured students that the agency has started clearing outstanding payments and that beneficiaries will receive their allowances in batches until all pending payments are completed.

NELFUND had earlier explained that the delay resulted from system upgrades and the reconciliation of students' records to ensure that payments reached the right beneficiaries. The agency also dismissed reports suggesting that the Federal Government had suspended the upkeep allowance scheme.

Students are advised to remain calm, regularly check their bank accounts, and ensure that the details submitted during their application are accurate. Beneficiaries who are yet to receive their payments are expected to be credited as the ongoing disbursement continues.

The resumption of the upkeep allowance is expected to ease the financial burden on many students who rely on the scheme to support their education and daily living expenses.

ETV will continue to monitor the disbursement process and provide timely updates as more beneficiaries receive their payments.
